Tonight at The Ritzy, artist Rudy Loewe, the mind behind The Congregation, the new mural covering the entrance of Brixton Tube Station, is stepping on stage to unpack the stories behind the work.
Loewe went deep for this commission, with months in the archives, interviews with elders, long walks through the noise, colour and chaos of Brixton’s everyday life. The finished mural unfolds across 20 scenes: the Windrush arrivals, SisterMatic’s sound-system legacy, Olive Morris, Pearl Alcock’s underground bar, Healthy Eaters, the crush of Electric Avenue, and even the quiet poetry of ordinary locals like CJ River and their child.
